The Government has launched a hotline service to enable consumers to "shop" companies, individuals or organisations lending money illegally at exorbitant rates. Callers have the chance to talk in confidence. They get advice and support and the information provided helps the "Stop Loan Sharks" team to take action to stop illegal money lending.

The confidential national hotline is 0300 555 2222. Consumers can also text "loan shark" and their message to 60003.
